Demographic Characteristics of Florida's Children and Youth In this section, you will find basic descriptive information about the nearly 4 million children and youth under the age of 18 years living in Florida. The State's population of children is described with respect to age, gender, race and ethnicity, household income, insurance type, education, language and family structure (Table 2-1). Information on insurance type1 , education, language, and family structure is also provided for selected subgroups (Appendix Table 2-1). These characteristics and their impact on health status and healthcare are discussed throughout this chartbook where notable differences exist. Additional information on key indicators for Florida’s children and youth, including demographic, economic, educational and social well-being characteristics, is available from the Annual Florida Kids Count Report.2
